What is acupuncture, and how will it help my cat?
Acupuncture, as defined by the Chi Institute, is the stimulation of a specific point on the body with a specific method, which results in a therapeutic homeostatic effect. These specific points on the body are called acupoints. Chinese medicine dictates that humans have 361 acupoints and animals have 173. Research has indicated that stimulation of these specific points releases beta-endorphin, serotonin, and other neurotransmitters, which can relieve pain. Acupuncture also benefits pets with musculoskeletal, neurological, gastrointestinal, and even behavioral problems.
The frequency and length of treatments vary by condition and specific case, but can be an affordable addition to your cat’s treatment plan. We are happy to be able to offer this alternative form of medicine for your felines.
